Kano Governor inaugurates Shura Advisory Council – The Sun Nigeria

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf has inaugurated the state Shura Council with the task of advising the government on matters of societal transformation and moral upliftment.

A statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad on Monday, said the inauguration was held at Government House, Kano.

According to the statement, GYusuf said the council’s primary mandate was to work in close collaboration with the government to combat societal ills such as drug abuse and thuggery among the youth, with the aim of guiding them toward a more positive path.

He added that the council’s role also included to advise Friday Imams to present their sermons in a manner that will preach peaceful coexistence among citizens.

He expressed gratitude to the Ulama for their tireless efforts in propagating Islam not only in Kano but across Nigeria.

He affirmed his belief in the Ulama to bring about lasting positive change for the state’s transformation, citing their unlimited capacity to checkmate immorality, unlike politicians who are constrained by limited tenures.

He emphasised that the promotion of Islam and the betterment of the state are core priorities of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP)-led administration.

He assured the council members that his administration would not interfere in religious affairs and expressed his delight at reuniting with many of the familiar faces on the council, reaffirming his good intentions for the state’s progress.

The council, comprised of prominent Islamic scholars (Ulama), traditional rulers, and members of the business community.

In his acceptance speech, Wazirin Kano, Sheik Sa’ad Shehu, expressed gratitude to God Almighty for choosing them to serve on the council.

He disclosed that the task bestowed upon them is not easy, praying to God to give them the wisdom to carry out their duties efficiently.
