Kano  gov receives New Telegraph  Best Governor of the Year Award on Education

Kano state Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf  was Friday named  best Nigerian Governor of the Year 2024 on Educational Development by the  New Telegraph Newspapers in Lagos.

The award was presented to  Governor Yusuf by a  former Abia state Governor, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu,  who is the Publisher of the New Telegraph Newspapers, alongside another former governor,  Senator Adams Oshiomole.

A statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Mr. Sanusi Bature, revealed that the event  was graced by the Managing Director of the NNPCL, Mele Kyari, and other highly placed dignitries.

Governor Yusuf’s  commitments to the development of education and his unflinching support for the growth of the sector was showcased at the event.

Governor Yusuf who was represented by some members of the State Executive Council led by special adviser on state affairs, Usman Bala, a former Head of Service in the state, Commissioner for information, Comrade Ibrahim Waiya among others, expressed deep happiness on the award.

He also expressed his commitment to continue to  give the education sector more attention and support to achieve the desired  reforms being implemented by his government.

Governor Yusuf was selected alongside the governor of Ekiti, Sokoto, Lagos, Ondo, Ogun, Borno,  Delta and Osun states.

According to the management of New Telegraph, governor Yusuf was selected because of his administration’s commitments on education reforms including the declaration of state of emergency on education, sponsorship of 1, 001 post-gradudate students abroad, recruitment of teachers, provision of classrooms, instructional materials, desks and chairs and allocation of 29.5 and 31 per cent of the total budget for 2024 and 2025 respectively to education.

Other members of the governors’ delegation included the Special Adviser, state affairs, Usman Bala, Director General Protocol Abdullahi Rogo, Director General, Media and Publicity, Sanusi Bature, Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Aisha Lawan Saji, Special Adviser on Civil, Service matters Suleiman Wali Sani, Special Adviser on education Tajuddeen Gambo, Managing Director of KASCO Dr. Kabiru Sani, MD Tourims Tukur Bala Sagagi, and MD Abubakar Rimi Market Abdul Hussain.
