Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, said that despite recent calls by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his removal, his relationship with the governor remains cordial and focused on maintaining peace and security in the state.
Daily Trust recalls that Governor Yusuf, during his address at the 65th Independence Day anniversary celebration in Kano, publicly urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to redeploy the Commissioner following the latter’s absence and the reported withdrawal of police personnel from the parade ground.
Responding to a question on the matter during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters, Bakori said both institutions were only carrying out their constitutional duties and that his relationship with the governor remained friendly.

“All of us are doing our job, and we are still friends and collaborating to ensure security of lives and property in the state,” he said.
Meanwhile, CP Bakori announced the arrest of nine suspected armed robbers allegedly responsible for a series of violent robberies across the state — including one in which they pulled out a woman’s tooth with a diamond tool during an attack.
“I am pleased to announce to you the successful arrest of nine suspects involved in a series of armed robbery operations in Kano State,” he stated.
According to him, the arrest followed a report of an armed robbery incident that occurred on October 8, 2025, at about 2am, at a residence in Unguwar Wambai, Dorayi Babba Quarters, Kano.
“The robbers, armed with rifles, made away with a Toyota Yaris vehicle, local and foreign currencies amounting to N3.7 million, three mobile phones, and other valuables. In the process, they also brutally assaulted the complainant’s wife, removing one of her teeth with a diamond tool, causing her grievous hurt,” he said.
Bakori explained that following the report, operatives attached to Dorayi Division arrested one suspect, after which the Command’s Special Intervention Squad (SIS), acting on his directive, launched a coordinated operation that led to the arrest of eight others in Kano and Kaduna States.
The CP disclosed that the suspects confessed to participating in several robbery operations in Abuja, Kaduna, and Kano, including the recent attack at Unguwar Jakada, Dorayi Quarters.
Recovered exhibits include one double-barrel gun with breach number 273720 and 18 live cartridges; one English Falcon pistol with breach number RFJA 170521867; one scrapped Phoenix pistol; one iron cutter; two cutlasses; four sharp knives, three torch lights and one operational Toyota Corolla LE with registration number ADK 787.
Bakori said all the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigation, noting that efforts were ongoing to recover more exhibits.
He attributed the Command’s recent successes to its community-based security model, Operation Kukan Kura, which he said has helped reduce crime rates across Kano.
“We have seen a geometric reduction in all forms of crime. Mobile phone snatching and robbery are becoming things of the past, while thuggery activities (fadan daba) have been largely crippled,” he added.
The CP commended officers involved in the operation for their professionalism and bravery, urging them to sustain the tempo.
“Their dedication to duty has resulted in this significant breakthrough, and I urge all officers to continue working tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of the people of Kano State,” Bakori stated.
