Kano Bakers Pledge Improved Bread Quality Amidst Price Controversy

KANO – The Master Bakers and Caterers Association, Kano Chapter, on Wednesday pledged to improve bread quality amidst price controversy in the state.

A Communique that was made available to newsmen in Kano shortly after its meeting between the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission described the
development as a positive step towards resolving the bread price controversy that has been brewing in the state.

The Communique that was jointly signed by the Chairman, Kano Anti corruption Agency and the leadership of the Bankers association noted that
the bakers pledged to increase the gram weight of their bread, effectively improving its quality.

The statement revealed that The controversy surrounding bread prices has been a subject of public debate, with consumers complaining that prices haven’t dropped despite a significant reduction in flour costs.

It stressed that However, Bakers complaint that they’ve been buying flour at N60,000, not N90,000 as claimed.

Flour companies recently reduced prices by N2,000 in anticipation of Ramadan. While this decrease is welcome, bakers noted that other essential ingredients, such as sugar and oil, haven’t dropped in price. This, they explained, has made it challenging to reduce the price of bread.

To address consumer concerns, the bakers pledged to increase the gram weight of their bread, effectively improving its quality. This move is expected to provide relief to consumers who have been complaining about the high price of bread.

The Commission in the Communique offered to
monitor the situation, ensuring that flour suppliers comply with the new prices. This is aimed at preventing exploitation of consumers and ensuring that the benefits of the price reduction are passed on to them.
