Kano Anti-Graft Agency Detains Gov Yusuf’s Aide, LG Officials Over N105m Scandal

KANO – Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission has taken into custody a Senior Special Assistant to Governor Yusuf, Mustapha Maifada, the Director of Personnel Management, Treasurer, Cashier of Nasarawa Local Government Council over alleged diversion of N105m. 

The top of the council was accused of issuing a cheque of N105m to the governor’s aide in November 2024. 

Sources familiar with the scandal told Daily INDEPENDENT that the three council staff were directed to give N105,000 to the Senior Special Assistant for a programme. 

However, the anti-graft agency acting on credible information from a dragnet set up to monitor local government finances has quizzed the officials for their roles in the alleged diversion of funds. 

Daily INDEPENDENT learned that during interrogation, the detained council staff claimed the payment was a “mistake” and a situation that the anti-graft agency refused to accept considering that the alleged crime was committed in November and other information at its disposal. 

‘’Suspecting that probably the arrangement is not working, the detained council staff just quickly reported the matter to the police, ‘’the source told this paper. 

The source noted that in the course of an investigation, it was discovered that Mustapha Maifada had bought properties with the money.
