Kaduna Police, DSS Arrest Suspected Vote Buyer with ₦25.9m Cash Ahead of Bye-Elections


The Kaduna State Police Command, in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies, has arrested a suspected vote buyer with ₦25,963,000 cash in Kaduna ahead of the state’s bye-elections.

Police spokesperson DSP Mansir Hassan confirmed in a statement on Saturday that operatives apprehended one Shehu Aliyu Patangi at a hotel along Turunku Road in Kaduna metropolis around 3:30 a.m. The cash recovered from him was allegedly intended to bribe voters during the polls.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had planned to use the said amount to bribe eligible voters. On interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and pleaded for leniency,” the statement noted.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, commended the synergy between security agencies and vowed that anyone attempting to undermine the electoral process would face the full weight of the law.

He assured residents of Kaduna State that adequate security measures are in place before, during, and after the elections, urging citizens to exercise their franchise peacefully without fear or intimidation.

The police command reiterated its zero-tolerance stance against electoral malpractice and pledged to protect the integrity of the forthcoming bye-elections.
