Election observers under the aegis of the Coalition of Rights Groups and Election Monitors have described the recently concluded bye-elections in Kaduna state as free, fair and transparent, commending the performance of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies.
The groups, which deployed monitors across several local government areas, said the exercise marked a remarkable improvement in Nigeria’s democratic journey, with high voter participation, transparency and peaceful conduct recorded at polling units.
In a joint statement issued in Kaduna, the observers applauded INEC for the timely arrival of election materials, strict adherence to guidelines and prompt electronic transmission of results.
Dr. Amina Mohammed, spokesperson of the Civil Rights and Democracy Watch (CRDW), said the polls reflected the will of the people.
“Our observers reported minimal cases of irregularities, and those were not significant enough to affect the overall outcome. The people of Kaduna spoke clearly, and their votes counted,” she said.
Similarly, the Network of Election Observers (NEO) praised security agencies for ensuring order during the exercise.
NEO’s national coordinator, Mr. Peter Okafor, said security operatives demonstrated professionalism that reassured voters and discouraged malpractices.
“We observed professionalism from security operatives across polling units. Their presence boosted confidence and contributed to the credibility of the process,” he said.
The coalition further congratulated Governor Uba Sani on his victory at the polls, urging him to carry all stakeholders along in delivering the dividends of democracy.
They also appealed to opposition parties to respect the will of the electorate and work with the governor in building a peaceful and prosperous Kaduna state.
