Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja has directed the President of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) to assemble a panel of medical experts to evaluate the health condition of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
According the GUARDIAN, the court ordered that the committee must submit its findings within eight days to determine whether Kanu should be transferred to the National Hospital in Abuja for further treatment.
Delivering the ruling on Friday, Justice Omotosho stated that the panel must visit the Department of State Services (DSS) medical facility to assess its capacity to provide adequate healthcare for Kanu.

According to the judge, the committee will be free to utilize any hospital within the country to conduct its investigations and compile its report.
Justice Omotosho further directed that the committee should consist of between eight and ten members of the NMA, including a cardiologist and a neurologist, to ensure a comprehensive medical evaluation.
Additionally, the judge ordered that the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the National Hospital in Abuja must be included as a member of the committee.
The court’s decision followed conflicting medical reports presented by the DSS and Kanu’s private medical consultants, which offered differing recommendations on the separatist leader’s health condition.
