Terrorists launched an attack on travellers along the Eruku–Egbe road in the Eruku area of Ekiti Local Government, Kwara State, on Monday, bringing vehicles to a sudden halt.
Footage citculating online showed multiple buses and trucks parked along the roadside, with commuters fleeing into surrounding bushes for safety.
An eyewitness reported that the attackers remained active in the area as of Monday afternoon, urging motorists to avoid the route until security forces restore calm.
This incident follows a separate gunmen ambush on a commercial bus on Sunday along the Ayere–Kabba road in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, where one passenger was killed and several others injured.
The attack occurred around 5pm as armed men targeted travellers on the busy highway. While some vehicles managed to escape, many passengers were hit by gunfire.
“One person was confirmed dead at the general hospital, while others are receiving treatment for gunshot wounds,” a source revealed.
Local residents note that the Ayere–Kabba and Eruku–Egbe corridors have become frequent hotspots for armed attacks, with gangs reportedly operating across the Kogi-Kwara border.
