Jonathan, Peter Obi, Makinde In PDP’s 2027 Presidential Mix

Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro, has revealed three Southern politicians the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is considering as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

The disclosure was made on Wednesday, during an interview on AIT’s programme, Focus Nigeria.

Moro mentioned former President Goodluck Jonathan, ex-Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State as potential contenders.

He also noted that other qualified Southern PDP members could enter the race.

“Some names have been thrown up now that the position has been zoned to the South and all the names have been members of the PDP.

“Peter Obi, because of the perceived unfair treatment of not zoning the position of the president to the South and possibly to the Southeast, left PDP.

“Now that the position has been zoned to the South, he is welcome to join the race,” Moro said.

He added, “The former president, Goodluck Jonathan, is a bona fide and an imminent member of PDP, a statesman per se, and has been mentioned.

“Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, has also been mentioned.”

Moro stressed that the party will continue consultations and persuasions.

“Going forward, many more names are going to be mentioned because I insist that PDP, as a grassrooted political party, has many qualified and eminent Nigerians from the South that can give a shot at the presidency,” he added.

“At the end of the day, we will present a candidate that will give the ruling party a run for its money,” he stated.

He also reflected on past party challenges, saying, “Those who moved to the ADC, especially from the South, felt shortchanged by the 2022 zoning of the party, throwing the position open.

“This created some problems for the party, problems that PDP is trying to find a solution to,” he added.
