The Director-General of the African Writers Institute, Udenta O. Udenta, has said that former President Goodluck Jonathan stands a strong chance of winning in the North.
He explained that Jonathan’s chances would be bright if he decides to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Udenta made this known on Friday, while responding to questions on Daily Politics, a programme on Trust TV.

He argued that northern leaders now regret rejecting Jonathan in 2015 and would likely rally around him if he declares.
“The North which rejected him in 2015, based on my conversation with some leaders from the region, now said they made a great mistake in that rejection,” Udenta said.
“So that nostalgic feeling that he should come and salvage the country is growing. And if he does, I can bet you that the North will heave in technology shift away from everybody.”
When asked whether Jonathan still holds political capital to leverage, the political analyst insisted that the former president remains a viable option, particularly because he is constitutionally limited to only one term in office.
“The big deal for Jonathan, and most crucial, let’s be practical about that, is that he has only one term.
“That is key for the North because of course in 2031, there won’t be argument.
“That’s why Peter Obi was quick to say he has only one term to do,” Udenta explained.
He maintained that Jonathan’s single-term advantage, combined with renewed northern support, could significantly reshape the dynamics of the 2027 race, positioning him as a unifying figure across regions.
