Jigawa approves N2.5bn projects in education, agriculture, energy – Daily Trust


The Jigawa State Executive Council, chaired by Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi, has approved projects worth over N2.5 billion to boost education, agriculture, and energy. The approvals followed the council’s meeting of September 22, 2025.

In education, N869.6m was approved for renovating seven model Tsangaya schools, constructing 30 recitation halls, and building 30 reading shades to improve Islamic education for Almajiri pupils. The council also approved N1.54bn for bursary allowances to 22,388 students in 83 tertiary institutions nationwide.

Additionally, N835m will fund the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme, aimed at equipping youth with skills for employment and economic growth. Another N779.2m will provide teaching materials and mobility support for supervision across the 27 local government areas.

For agriculture, the council approved N396m to subsidise the Federal Government’s fertilizer allocations. This includes 12,000 bags of NPK fertilizer, to be sold at N33,000 per bag, to support smallholder farmers and boost food production.

In the energy sector, N733.1m was approved for technical audit and planning of rooftop solar installations across key public institutions under the State Interventions Solar Solution (SI-SS) Programme. The initiative targets schools, hospitals, and other critical facilities.

To deepen financial inclusion, the council also approved the establishment of five microfinance banks in Birniwa, Gujungu (Taura), Guri, Gwaram, and Kaugama LGAs.

“These initiatives reflect our commitment to education, food security, renewable energy, and financial services for all,” said Information Commissioner Sagir Musa.
