Young and skilled Nigerian artisans will soon enjoy government’s talent development for export programme, Afiz Ogun, Director-General of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) has disclosed.
Ogun said that the programme, which involves taking Nigerian to countries that require their skills, would be enjoyed by qualified and trained persons between the ages of 35 years and below.
”(This will) facilitate the export of young, skilled Nigerian artisans aged 35 years and below to international markets as part of its talent development programme.”
The ITF D-G said this during a visit to trainees sitting examinations at the Lanre Shittu Motors training centre in Abuja.
He explained that participants, who successfully complete their training, would be licensed with certification recognised by the federal government.
The ITF offers various skill development programmes, including the National Industrial Skills Development Programme (NISDP) and the Skill-Up Artisans (SUPA) initiative.
These initiatives were aimed at training youths in trades like manufacturing, engineering, and ICT to reduce unemployment and foster national economic growth.
Collaborations with organisations such as the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) and the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) further extend the reach and impact of these programmes.
Ogun said that this new export initiative was being developed in partnership with Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA).
He explained that the NACCIMA maintains international links through trade fairs and commercial networks across the globe.
These connections, he noted, would help identify countries seeking specific categories of skilled workers.
Jani Ibrahim, President of NACCIMA, stated that the association would facilitate the programme worldwide, adding that it was part of the associations social responsibility to the country.(NAN)
