Israel’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, has vowed to unleash the symbolic biblical “10 plagues of Egypt” on Yemen’s Houthi rebels following a renewed wave of missile attacks directed at Israel.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, Katz declared: “The Huthis are firing missiles at Israel again. A plague of darkness, a plague of the firstborn — we will complete all 10 plagues.” His reference drew from the Book of Exodus, which recounts the ten divine punishments inflicted on ancient Egypt to secure the release of enslaved Israelites.
The renewed tension comes after the Israeli army confirmed that a missile launched from Yemen landed outside Israeli territory on Thursday. This followed the interception of two Houthi missiles a day earlier.

According to Yahya Saree, the Houthi military spokesperson, the rebels specifically targeted Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport with a ballistic missile. The declaration underscores the group’s escalating military operations against Israel.
The Houthi movement, which is backed by Iran, has pledged to intensify its offensive after Israeli airstrikes last week killed the Yemeni prime minister and 11 senior officials. The escalation is part of an ongoing retaliation cycle in the region.
Since the Gaza war began in October 2023, the Huthis have consistently launched drone and missile assaults against Israel, claiming their actions are in solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
In response, Israel has conducted multiple retaliatory strikes on Yemeni infrastructure, including ports, power facilities, and Sanaa International Airport, located in the rebel-held capital.
