Alexander Isak’s Newcastle striker is on the verge of joining Liverpool Football Club in a British record signing, according to Fabrizio Romano, a football journalist.
The Sweden international has been in the news recently due to his desire to move from the Toon Army side, but the club was reluctant to sell their striker with a total of 54 goals in 86 games for them.
The deal, which marks one of the biggest in Premier League history, is now set to be finalised, with the Swedish striker expected to undergo medical tests on Monday.
Newcastle’s Saudi owners gave the green light for the move after weeks of negotiations, paving the way for Isak’s long-anticipated switch to Anfield. The 24-year-old forward, who has been a top target for Liverpool for months, has already agreed personal terms on a long-term contract.
“It was always only Liverpool for Isak,” Romano reported, emphasising the player’s desire to make the move to Merseyside.
With the record-breaking deal close to completion, Newcastle are now exploring potential replacements for the outgoing striker. Brentford’s Yoane Wissa and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Jorgen Strand Larsen are among the names being considered to fill the gap in Eddie Howe’s squad.
Isak’s arrival is expected to significantly bolster Liverpool’s attacking options as they aim to maintain their flawless start to the season and challenge for major honours.
The transfer, once completed, will set a new benchmark in the Premier League, with Isak becoming the most expensive signing in Liverpool’s history and a statement of intent from the club in their pursuit of more silverware.
