Isak bids emotional farewell to Newcastle after £125m Liverpool move

Premier League record signing Alexander Isak said it had “been an honour” to play for Newcastle as he thanked the fans in a farewell message following his £125m move to Liverpool.

The 25-year-old Sweden international completed his switch to Anfield on deadline day after a drawn-out transfer saga, becoming the most expensive signing in British football history.

Isak enjoyed a successful spell at St James’ Park, famously scoring in Newcastle’s 2-1 Carabao Cup final victory over Liverpool in March, a win that ended the club’s 70-year wait for a domestic trophy.

However, the striker made clear during the summer that he wanted to leave the Magpies and did not feature for the team this season.

Newcastle announced his departure with a brief 37-word statement, while Isak shared a far more heartfelt message on Instagram.

“I want to express my gratitude to my team-mates, the staff, and above all, the city of Newcastle and all the amazing supporters for the three unforgettable years we shared together,” Isak wrote.

“Together, we have written history and brought the club to the place where it truly belongs.

“It has been an honour to be part of the journey, from reaching the Champions League to winning the first trophy in over 70 years. Forever grateful. Thank you, Newcastle.”
