Int’l Peace Day: NYC preaches collaboration to foster peace amidst global instability

The Nigerian Youth Congress (NYC) has called for collaborative efforts to foster tolerance, dialogue, and unity among all Nigerians in the face of rising global instability.

The NYC President, Engr. Jethro Annum, made the call in a statement to commemorate the 2025 International Day of Peace with the theme, “Act Now for a Peaceful World,”.

Engr Annum reaffirmed the commitment of the NYC under his leadership to peace-building as essential for national development and urged youths and well meaning Nigerians to champion initiatives that reduce socio-economic tensions through employment and job creation.

The NYC commended the efforts of the office of the National Security Adviser to the President and all security agencies for their roles in ensuring a peaceful society stressing that peace remains the “bedrock of development,”.

“Of course, peace is the bedrock of development, and the NYC stands resolute in championing initiatives that nurture tolerance, dialogue, and unity. For without peace, there cannot be development and true empowerment will be a mirage,” it said.

Engr Annum called on governments, private sector, civil society, religious based organisations and international partners to collaborate more deeply with young people to sustain peace and boost employment.

“As an organisation committed to nurturing peace and youth empowerment, our unwavering commitment to building a culture of peace among Nigerian youths and across communities is unquestionable.

“In keeping with its tradition of encouraging excellence, this year’s International Day of Peace was marked with special recognition and honours to individuals, organizations, and stakeholders who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to peacebuilding, youth employment, and job creation in Nigeria.

“These awards will spotlight those whose investments and initiatives have directly impacted communities, empowered young people, and reduced socio-economic tensions. Since the youth are the heartbeat of our nation, celebrating champions of peace and job creation is our own little way of being grateful.

“With this, we hope to encourage more investments in youth development and inspire a new generation of leaders who will transform our society with innovation, inclusiveness, and compassion,” the release added.
