Inter Milan abandon move for Lookman as talks collapse

Inter Milan have ended their pursuit of Nigerian international Ademola Lookman following the breakdown of negotiations with Atalanta.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Inter officials will meet Lookman’s camp within 24 hours to confirm the deal is off and explain the reasons behind the decision.

The transfer collapsed after two weeks of deadlocked talks, with Atalanta refusing to lower their valuation. Despite Inter’s initial optimism, no breakthrough was reached, forcing the Nerazzurri to withdraw.

Club sources also clarified that Lookman’s transfer discussions were not connected to Nicola Zalewski’s potential move from Roma to Atalanta, rejecting speculation of a link between the two.

Lookman, 26, has been a standout performer for Atalanta since his 2022 arrival from RB Leipzig. He scored consistently in Serie A and Europe last season and impressed for Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, netting three goals as the Super Eagles reached the final.

Inter had identified him as a versatile attacking option to boost their frontline, but Atalanta’s firm stance ended the talks.

The Nerazzurri will now switch focus to other attacking targets before the transfer window closes.
