Insecurity: Tinubu well ahead of U.S. plans, to meet Trump soon – Presidency



There are indications that President Bola Tinubu may soon meet President Donald Trump of the United States, to discuss the security situation in Nigeria.

The Presidency has also assured Nigerians that President Tinubu is fully aware of, and well ahead of, the developments unfolding in the United States.

Recall that Trump was reported to have threatened to suspend further assistance to Nigeria if the Tinubu administration fails to halt the alleged killing of Christians in the country.

He was also said to have threatened to mobilise the U.S. military to invade Nigeria if the killings persist, even as he has directed the Pentagon to prepare for possible action.

Bayo Onanuga, the presidential spokesman, in a statement on Sunday, recalled that the President had already directed the new service chiefs to go after terrorists terrorising innocent citizens.

According to Onanuga, the President had told the Service Chiefs on Thursday what Nigerians expect of them.

President Tinubu had while decorating the Service Chiefs with their new ranks, said the country will take “No more excuses, adding that “Nigerians want results.”

The President who had noted that “Security threats are constantly evolving, constantly mutating”, added that “Of grave concern to our administration is the recent emergence of new armed groups in the North-Central, North-West, and parts of the South.

“We must not allow these new threats to fester. We must be decisive and proactive. Let us smash the new snakes right in the head.

“I charge you, as the heads of our nation’s armed forces, to carry out your duties with patriotic zeal. Nigerians expect results, not excuses.

The President also charge them “to be innovative, pre-emptive, and courageous. Let’s stay ahead of those who seek to threaten our peace. Let us deploy technology where necessary. We cannot allow the crisis that began in 2009 to persist any longer.

“I wish you success as you take up the challenge. I promise to provide all the support you need to get the job done.”

Also, Daniel Bwala, the special adviser to the President on Policy Communication, hinted that both leaders will meet soon to discuss the current security situation in Nigeria.

Bwala in a post on his X handle, noted that both “President @officialABAT and President @realDonaldTrump have shared interest in the fight against insurgency and all forms of terrorism against humanity.”

He also stated that, “President Trump has assisted Nigeria a lot by authorising the sale of arms to Nigeria and President Tinubu has adequately utilised the opportunity in the fight against terrorism for which we have massive results to show for it.

“As for the differences as to whether terrorists in Nigeria target only Christians or in fact all faiths and no faiths, the differences if they exist would be discussed and resolved by the two leaders when they meet in the coming days, either in State House or White House.”
