Insecurity: Nnamdi Kanu’s release will restore peace to South East – Institute

The Rochas Political Institute for Emerging Leaders, has told the Federal Government that the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kano would restore peace to the South East region.

Its Facilitators, Uba, John Onyebuchi, Nwankwo, Emmanuel Emeka, and representative of the Students, Peter muoghara ebubedike, in a statement yesterday, called on President Bola Tinubu, to listen to the yearnings of the South East and facilitate Kanu’s release.

The statement read: “Having reviewed the security situation in the South East in particular and Nigeria in general, and as bona fide sons and daughters of the region, we have come to a conclusion that, the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will bring lasting peace and progress to the South East region in particular and the country as a whole.

“We therefore, join our voices with that of our principal, Distinguished Senator Rochas Anayo Okorocha (Owelle Ndi Igbo), to call on Mr President, to listen to the yearnings of the South East and facilitate the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.”

They, however, passed a vote of confidence on President Tinubu, by appreciating his giant steps so far taken on regional development.

“We, the members and facilitators of the Rochas Political Institute for Emerging Leaders, at our first general assembly today, Saturday  February 22, 2025, at Rapour Hotels Ltd, Orlu Road, Owerri, Imo State, resolved that after due consideration of recent socio-political circumstances of our dear nation Nigeria in general, the South East geo-political region in particular, and after careful assessment of the performance of the present government led by His Excellency, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinibu GCFR, and Vice President Kashim Shettima GCON, wish to state as follows:

“We pass a vote of implicit confidence on the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and therefore, guarantee our unalloyed support for his second term bid in office.

“That we will do all that is humanly possible within our capacity to ensure he has smooth transition from the first to the second tenure in office. We also call on all well-meaning citizens of Nigeria to join hands with us to ensure a second term is guaranteed for our President.

“We appreciate the giant steps so far taken by the present administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Regional development.

“We thank him for supporting and approving the establishment of the South East Development Commission and for appointing competent hands into its management.

“We pray that the establishment of the commission will translate to unprecedented infrastructural development of the region.”
