A cross-section of private and public elementary and secondary schools within the boundaries of the Federal Capital Territory, has been closed over rising security ravaging the country, Daily Trust reports.
The development, it was gathered, was in compliance with the directive of the Niger State Government to all schools to remain shut till further notice after the abduction of some students from St. Mary’s School located in Papiri.
Our correspondent, who visited places like Madalla, Zuma Rock Area, Dakwa, Sabon Wuse – all in Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State on Monday, observed that the schools are currently under lock and key.

Dakwa, Madalla and Zuma Rock Area are burgeoning towns in the Dei-Dei District of the FCT, which lie on the boundary between Abuja and Niger State.
Similarly, a visit to Garam and some communities around Bwari Area Council of the FCT which also share boundaries with Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State have been shut.
Checks showed that the nation’s capital is bordered by the states of Niger to the west and north for 179 km, Kaduna to the northeast for 45 km, Nasarawa to the east and south for 156 km, and Kogi to the southwest for 17 km.
Speaking with Daily Trust, a teacher in one of the private schools, said most proprietors of schools situated at the communities that boundary between Abuja and Niger, have met and resolved to comply with the government’s order.
“Though, we’re not located in the areas mostly affected by security challenges, we still have to be proactive and take preventive measures by listening to the authority.
“So, we have asked our children to stay at home for now pending when everything is fine. We are about to start our examinations. That means, anytime we resume, we will commence it immediately,” he said.
Earlier on Sunday night, one of the schools had sent a notification to the parents, asking the students to come and pick their books from school and be reading at home.
“Dear Parents and Guardians,
“Following the directive from the Niger State Government, we regret to inform you that our school will be closed with immediate effect from 24th, NOVEMBER, 2025 UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
“This decision was made after careful consideration and in response to the current security situation in the state.
“We prioritize the safety and well-being of our students, and this closure is necessary to ensure their protection. We will communicate any updates or resumption dates as soon as possible.”
