The management of Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero, in Kebbi State, has ordered the immediate suspension of all academic activities and directed staff and students to vacate the campus without delay.
The directive was contained in an internal memo issued by the Office of the Registrar and Secretary to Council. The notice, signed by Registrar Maimaro Alhaji Tilli, said the closure takes immediate effect and applies to all categories of students, including postgraduate, undergraduate, diploma, remedial and IJMB programmes.
Students were instructed to leave the campus within one hour of the announcement, while the institution’s Security Division was authorised to evacuate anyone found in hostels or other restricted areas thereafter.
The memo also advised students living off campus particularly those in nearby communities such as Gidan Rami to vacate their residences to avoid what it described as potential “embarrassment” from security operatives enforcing the order.
Although no official reason was provided for the abrupt shutdown, sources within the university linked the decision to rising security concerns affecting educational institutions across northern Nigeria.
The university added that the closure would remain in effect until further notice.
