Nigeria’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers have suffered a setback after Werder Bremen defender Felix Agu was ruled out with a serious injury.
Felix Agu, who had been expected to feature in the Super Eagles’ squad against Lesotho and Benin Republic, sustained a syndesmosis ligament injury during Bremen’s 1-0 win over St. Pauli last weekend. The 24-year-old full-back was forced off just before halftime and replaced by Isaac Schmidt.
Bremen confirmed on Monday through an official statement that Agu will be sidelined for several months. The development leaves Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, with no choice but to find a replacement ahead of Friday’s clash in Maseru.
Nigeria will then return home to face the Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo next Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has been nominated for the PFA Women’s Super League Fans’ Player of the Month award for September.
Nnadozie has been in outstanding form for Brighton & Hove Albion Ladies since the start of the campaign. In her five league appearances so far, the 24-year-old has kept two clean sheets and played a key role in helping the Seagulls collect seven points from their opening fixtures.
She will battle for the monthly award against some of the league’s brightest stars, including Chelsea’s Aggie Beever-Jones, Manchester United’s Melvine Malard, Arsenal striker Alessia Russo, Manchester City forward Bunny Shaw, and Tottenham Hotspur’s Cathinka Tandberg.
Fans can cast their votes for their preferred nominee through the official WSL platform.
