The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has recorded over eight million online voter registrations in the ninth week of its nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, signaling robust public engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Fresh data released on Tuesday shows 8,003,196 entries from October 13 to 19, 2025, with final figures pending validation through the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) to weed out duplicates and invalid submissions.
The surge shows growing enthusiasm among young Nigerians and women for electoral participation.
Women led with 4,190,890 registrations (52.37%), edging out men at 3,812,306 (47.63%). Youth aged 18–34 dominated, accounting for 5,533,514 entries (69.14%), followed by middle-aged groups (35–49 years) at 1,678,212 (20.97%) and those 50–69 at 704,866 (8.81%).
Students topped occupational categories with 2,018,967 (25.23%), trailed by business professionals at 1,659,690 (20.74%), while Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) made up 182,718 (2.29%).
State-wise, Imo led with 826,850 registrations (10.32%), followed by Lagos (604,619 or 7.56%) and Ogun (510,062 or 6.37%). Yobe recorded the lowest at 2,714 (0.03%).
For completed registrations—encompassing both online pre-registration and physical biometric capture—1,710,450 Nigerians have finalized the process, including 956,566 via online platforms and 753,884 at physical centers.
Among completers, youth again prevailed with 1,261,288 (73.74%), women with 945,305 (55.27%), and PWDs with 24,207 (1.41%). Students led occupations at 566,391 (33.11%), with businesspersons at 316,295 (18.49%) and housewives at 259,932 (15.28%).
Osun topped completed registrations at 151,593, followed by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) at 106,855, Lagos at 85,831, Kano at 96,280, Imo at 90,469, and Rivers at 28,507.
INEC emphasized the integrity of the process, noting that “the final figures are subject to data validation through the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS), which will detect and eliminate multiple or invalid registrations.”
The CVR remains suspended in Anambra State under Section 9(6) of the Electoral Act 2022, pending the November 8 governorship election, but continues elsewhere to expand the voter roll.
This milestone reflects INEC’s digital pivot to streamline access, particularly for tech-savvy youth, as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 polls.
