INEC Sets Date To Present Certificates Of Return To Bye-Election Winners


The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the schedule for presenting Certificates of Return to winners of Saturday’s bye-elections.

The announcement was made on Tuesday, in compliance with Section 72(1) of the Electoral Act 2022.

Certificates of Return will be handed over to the Senators-elect for Anambra South and Edo Central Senatorial Districts, as well as five members-elect of the House of Representatives for various constituencies.

These include Ovie North East and Ovie South West Federal Constituencies of Edo State, Babura/Garki Federal Constituency of Jigawa State, and Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency of Kaduna State.

They also include Ikenne/Shagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency of Ogun State and Ibadan North Federal Constituency of Oyo State.

“The occasion will take place at the INEC National Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, 21st August 2025 at 3:00 pm,” the statement from the Commission said.

“We urge all winners to be present and comply with all protocols for the presentation.”

For the State Houses of Assembly, Certificates of Return will be presented by the Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in their respective state offices on Friday, 22nd August 2025, at 11:00 am.

“The process will be strictly monitored to ensure fairness and transparency,” the statement added.

“The constituencies include Ganye State Constituency of Adamawa State, Onitsha North 1 State Constituency of Anambra State, Basawa and Zaria/Kewaye State Constituencies of Kaduna State, and Bagwai/Shanono and Ghari/Tsanyawa State Constituencies of Kano State.

“They also include Okura State Constituency of Kogi State, Munya State Constituency of Niger State, and Karim Lamido 1 State Constituency of Taraba State.”

An INEC official emphasised, “We are committed to upholding the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring that all winners receive their certificates without delay.”
