INEC recognises David Mark as ADC national chairman

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally recognised the David Mark-led leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The development, announced on Wednesday, follows weeks of internal restructuring within the party that produced new national officers tasked with repositioning the ADC ahead of future elections.

Alongside Mark, INEC also acknowledged Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary, Dr. Ibrahim Mani as National Treasurer, Akibu Dalhatu as National Financial Secretary, and Professor Oserheimen Aigberaodion Osunbor as National Legal Adviser.

With this formal endorsement, the new leadership is expected to embark on nationwide reconciliation and mobilisation as part of efforts to strengthen the ADC’s presence before the 2027 general elections.

The leadership transition began on July 2, when outgoing National Chairman Ralph Nwosu announced Mark’s appointment as interim chairman and Aregbesola as interim secretary. At the time, Nwosu said the previous executives had voluntarily stepped down to give room for “fresh direction and leadership.”

However, INEC did not immediately update its records due to incomplete documentation from the new executive committee. Until Wednesday, the commission still listed Nwosu and Said Abdullahi as National Chairman and Secretary, respectively. Other officers previously on record included Kelvin Alagoa (Treasurer), Ifeyinwa Ntima (Financial Secretary), and Barr. Ujunwa Onwuasoeze (Legal Adviser).

Under INEC regulations, political parties must submit formal documentation—such as resolutions, verified signatures, and evidence of due process—before leadership changes are officially recognised.
