Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, on Wednesday, expressed appreciation to the Board of Editors of Independent Newspapers for counting him worthy of the award of Governor of the Year, Solid Minerals Development (2024), based on his modest efforts at boosting the contribution of the sector to the state’s economy.
Responding to a speech by Steve Omanufeme, the Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of the media outfit when he received the nomination letter in his Abuja office, the governor assured that the award is indeed to the people of the state, even as it is an inspiration for his government to do more in the last two years of the administration.
“The award is to me, but indeed, it is to the people of Nasawara State. So, on behalf of the government and people of Nasarawa State, we wish to sincerely appreciate you for recognising our little efforts here and there… that has attracted your attention,” he stressed.
Speaking earlier, Mr. Steve Omanufeme, Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of Independent Newspapers, said the award is the outcome of the review of the governor’s enviable performance in his bid to diversify the economy of Nasarawa State from agriculture, by exploring and developing its vast solid minerals endowments.
The success in this area, the MD noted is possible because His Excellency brought his vast private sector experience to bear in his transformation efforts in the state.
“These efforts, especially in the solid minerals development are worthy of recognition,” he stressed.
Independent Newspapers acknowledged the efforts of the Abdullahi Sule administration in the sector, which has “resulted in the inauguration of the largest lithium processing plant in the country by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
The lithium company is expected to open up the state to investors in the value-chain, thereby generating massive direct and indirect employment for the people.
The 2024 INL Awards holds at Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Saturday, March 15, 2025.
