The vice chancellor, McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun state, Prof. Francis Igbasan, Monday called for the inclusion of Private Universities as beneficiaries of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) and Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
Prof. Igbasan made the call while speaking with journalists to herald the combine 8th and 9th Convocation Ceremonies and Conferment of Diploma, First Degrees, Higher Degrees and Presentation of Prices of the institution coming up on Friday.
The vice chancellor lamented that continue exclusion of private varsities as beneficiaries of the two federal government intervention will amount to depriving students of private institutions who are bonafide citizens of Nigeria their right.
Prof. Igbasan said the federal government has no reason to exclude private varsities who also contribute to the growth of the nation from the intervention, urging government to consider private universities as beneficiaries.
He said private institutions need the intervention to develop its infrastructures and train its personnel.
“Excluding us from the intervention is like surcharging the students. These students are citizens of Nigeria who will also contribute to the economy of the nation after leaving school,” he said.
