The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, has declared that he is no longer a politician following his enthronement as the paramount ruler of Ibadanland.

Oba Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State, made this known on Tuesday, during a courtesy visit to his palace in Ibadan.

He received former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, former Senate President, Iyorcha Ayu, and several other notable political figures.

“I appreciate your visit and I cherish the memories we shared during our time in politics.

“However, my new role demands a complete shift in focus, from politics to service as a traditional ruler,” he said.

The monarch explained that his enthronement came with a sacred responsibility, and Ibadan people now look up to him for guidance rooted in culture and tradition.

“The people of Ibadan expect me to be a father figure, not a partisan leader. That is why I must leave politics behind,” he added.

Oba Ladoja also urged his visitors to continue working for national unity and development, even as he has stepped away from partisan life.

“While I can no longer walk that path with you, I encourage you to remain steadfast in your service to the country,” the monarch advised.

The monarch, who reminisced about his days in active politics, explained that his new role requires him to step aside from partisan engagements.

“I am no more one of you. I am not a politician anymore. Welcome to my house.

“Now that I am the Olubadan, I am no more interested in any other things than the Olubadan,” Oba Ladoja declared.

Reflecting on his political journey, the Olubadan recalled his long association with Atiku and others across different political platforms, including the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Accord Party, which he once led.

“We started from SDP, we were in exile together, we were in PDP together, and when I wanted to create an identity, I went to Accord Party which became a household name in Ibadan,” he recounted.

Oba Ladoja stressed that while politicians often find ways to return to political life, his current position demands he focuses solely on his traditional responsibilities.

He pledged to use his throne to champion fairness and justice.

“All the religious leaders said that the only thing leaders can do is to promote justice and fairness. I will serve my people.

“Ibadan people, Oyo State, Africa, and the world at large. I will depend on your support and advice,” he said.
