Nigerian street-hop star Terry G has made a U-turn on his retirement announcement, insisting that he will never quit the music scene.

Gabriel Amanyi, popularly known as the ‘Akpako Master’, stunned his fans in January 2024 after posting a video where he bluntly declared, “I’m quitting music. I’m done.”

“I have to say a big thank you to my fans for staying true with me all these years back to back,” he had said.

“I really appreciate you all. Thank you so much for the love, I really appreciate.

“I am about to make a big announcement, I know it is going to hurt a lot of people but I have my personal reasons.

“I am quitting music. I no dey do again. I am done and I really appreciate you guys for showing me so much love.”

The 39-year-old artist behind hits like ‘Sangalo’ and ‘Free Madness’ has now overturned his earlier retirement plans, announcing the change in a post on X on Thursday.

“I fully embrace being seen as an upcoming artist. You only become a legend when you retire-and I’m never retiring. So if you catch me chasing clout, let me be,” he wrote.

Terry G, the artist who reshaped the Nigerian music landscape in the 2010s with his unique Street-hop vibe, used his tweet to reply to critics who accused him of seeking social media attention.

Terry G is equally recognised for his flamboyant fashion choices and provocative lyrics.
