The 2023 Labour Party presidential running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, said on Friday, that he would be willing to contest alongside Peter Obi in the 2027 elections.
Baba-Ahmed stated that his decision depends on improvements in Nigeria’s electoral system.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, he said, “If Nigeria is still around and there is an electoral system to follow, my love for Nigeria is undying, mark that.”

He emphasised his desire to align with like-minded individuals, noting, “I will appropriately associate with groups and individuals I think are like minded.”
On the possibility of still running with Peter Obi, Baba-Ahmed confirmed, “Absolutely, if you had heard what I was saying on air two months ago, there are two individuals that I would succumb to.
“The first has not said, so I won’t say it on his behalf, and the second one is Peter Obi and always Peter Obi until he decides not to.”
When asked about running with Rotimi Amaechi, he clarified, “The first person is not Rotimi Amaechi. Amaechi is a good guy.
“ By the way, why do you think that I have to be a deputy? Don’t keep looking at me like a deputy.”
Baba-Ahmed also stressed his commitment to Nigeria, saying, “My loyalty is to the country first, and I will do what I think is best for Nigeria’s future.”
On collaboration with Obi, he added, “Peter Obi represents a vision I strongly support; if the system allows, I will gladly run alongside him.”
He concluded, “Politics is about timing and readiness. I’m prepared to step in where I can contribute meaningfully, and that includes working with those I respect and trust, like Peter Obi.”
