ABUJA – The Ijaw Progressive Union of Aborigines (IPUA) has expressed heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Niger Delta leader, Chief Edwin Clark, who passed away on February 17, 2025, at the age of 97. In a statement released by Executive Coordinator Mr. Asiaye Denise Amakor, Clark was honored as a “detribalised Nigerian” who passionately advocated for his people.
Amakor emphasized the shock of Clark’s passing, particularly at a time when the Ijaw nation relied on his wisdom for effective leadership in both the region and Nigeria. He urged the immediate family to find solace in God and in Clark’s commendable legacy.
Moreover, Amakor called upon both state and national governments to address the long-standing neglect of Ijaw communities, advocating for improved infrastructure and safety measures. He highlighted that Clark’s death should serve as a wake-up call for governmental action to uplift the region.
As the family prepares to announce funeral arrangements, Amakor extended prayers for Chief Edwin Clark’s peaceful rest, recognizing his significant contributions to Nigeria’s political landscape and the empowerment of the Niger Delta.
