IGP Petition: My family has destroyed me; Natasha is receiving death threats

Music icon Innocent “2Baba” Idibia has reacted to the petition his family filed against his wife, Natasha Osawaru, a member of the Edo State House of Assembly.

PREMIUM TIMES reported that the singer’s family petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, urging him to investigate allegations against Natasha, including bigamy, financial misappropriation, and assault.

They claimed that her conduct had caused their son emotional distress, financial loss, and reputational damage.

However, in a video posted on the 2Baba House Instagram page on Friday, the 50-year-old denied the allegations his family levelled against his wife.

The “African Queen” star said the petition and the controversies surrounding it had inflicted deep personal harm on him.

Ceasefire

The Benue-born said, “This whole thing has gotten dangerously out of hand. I’m not just going to be quiet anymore. I feel I have to say some facts here. I’m a grown man, and I believe I have the right to be whoever I want to be.

Do you live in Ogijo

Do you understand? My family has, in trying to say they want to save me or say they want to help me, actually destroyed me. And they have killed somebody’s daughter’s character. Like, they’ve just literally killed somebody because Natasha is getting death threats right now.

“Fine, we’ve had our quarrel. Please tell me who doesn’t have to quarrel with their spouse from time to time. But this has gotten out of hand. I’m perfectly okay. I’m good. Everybody has been seeing me out there. Anybody who has eyes to see has seen me out there.

I recently performed my show in Abuja. A large number of people were present. How can you say you’re trying to save somebody’s life? And then you’re messing the whole, messing my life up.”

Death threats

Additionally, 2Baba revealed that Natasha receives death threats every day over allegations he insists are entirely false.

He described his family’s conduct towards him and Natasha as unacceptable, adding that he would no longer tolerate such behaviour from them.

“It’s my whole family, my brothers. I’m sorry to say, this is not right anyway. Natasha is getting death threats. This is so unacceptable. It’s not fair. It’s not nice. I have the right to be with whoever I want to be with. I’m not going to anybody’s house to interfere in their marriages.

I’m not a child. I’ve always been a quite peaceful person, but see, it’s getting to me too much now. It has become a habit. My family did the same thing with Annie. We all have our differences.

“We all have stuff that happens. However, this has become so dangerous right now. It has become so dangerous. It’s not funny anymore. I am totally devastated. Natasha is getting death threats. Like they’ve ruined her whole life. You don’t do stuff like this. You don’t do things like this.

In the name of saying you’re trying to save me, you’re destroying me. You’re destroying another person’s life. I don’t know if my own people don’t understand the damage that they’re doing”, said the “Warriors” crooner.

Speak up

Furthermore, 2Baba vowed to address the negative narratives being circulated about him and Natasha in the days to come.

He described his family’s actions, as well as the interviews granted by some of his former staff, as the equivalent of killing someone.

The singer admitted that he does not know where to begin in addressing the numerous issues at hand, but stressed that he will no longer remain silent.

He said, “You don’t do stuff like this. This has gone beyond, this is dangerous, oh God. I’m just totally short of words. I’m totally devastated. I’m deeply hurt by what is going on right now.

What my family is doing, and the people I worked with before going out there, fabricating so many lies and telling so many stories. And it’s so unfair, it’s not nice in the next couple of days. I’m going to really speak up and say a whole lot of things that have been going on that I’ve been quiet about.

“I’m not going to be quiet about this anymore. I know my fans, the people who love me, look up to me, and respect me. I understand the concern, I understand all that. But I’m perfectly normal. But painting me as mentally unstable is ridiculous.

This has got to stop. It has got to stop. And I beg everybody, please. Please, I beg everybody to have some human conscience. And stop all the death threats, and stop all this harassment. To bring people to my house.”

Appeal

2Baba also appealed to those issuing death threats against his wife to desist immediately.

He stressed that he and his wife were perfectly fine and that there was nothing wrong with their relationship.

“Writing a petition and saying all sorts of nonsense. This is not nice, this is not fair. I’m going to leave this now. But I’m going to speak up, I’m going to have to stand up. All the people sending death threats, please, stop it. We are fine. Please, I want people to understand and respect this fact that I’m saying.

Because this is not nice at all. And please, I want to tell my family, stay out of my private and personal life. Please. Just let me be with who I want to be with. Natasha has been hurt so terribly.

“And on top of that, getting death threats. What you’re doing, you’re killing me. You say you’re helping me, but you’re killing me. You’re killing us. Please, I beg everybody, please, I am short of words. I don’t want to have to come back here and start saying stuff.

But I think I’m going to really speak a whole lot of truth in the next couple of days. But for now, please, just let me be. Let us be. That’s the only simple appeal that I have for everybody. Let us be. I beg you”, he said.

Backstory

Since 2Baba went public with his relationship with Natasha, the pair had remained in the spotlight, moving from one controversy to the next.

Beyond the clash on Daddy Freeze’s livestream, the African Queen hitmaker also appeared in a viral video in which he was allegedly arrested in the United Kingdom following a reported altercation with the lawmaker.

As the footage circulated, the singer supposedly shared a post on his Instagram Story on Wednesday, calling on Nigerians for help.

He wrote, “Help me.” The message sparked concern among fans and other Nigerians.
