IGP Decorates 1 DIG, 4 AIGs, 11 CPs with New Ranks in Grand Ceremony



Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Tuesday, 28th October 2025, decorated 16 senior officers with their newly conferred ranks at a colourful ceremony held at the Goodluck Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The event marks the IGP’s unwavering commitment to recognizing excellence, diligence, and professionalism within the Nigeria Police Force.

Among the newly promoted officers were DIG Mohammed Dankwara, elevated from Assistant Inspector-General of Police; AIGs Denimen Abibo, Umar Madaki, Nkechi Eze, and Garba Nzukwen, promoted from Commissioners of Police; and 11 Deputy Commissioners of Police now substantive Commissioners, including CPs Naziru Kankarofi, Nendel Gomwalk, Tijani Fatai, Aniefok Akpan, Moorkwap Dongshal, and others.

The promotions formed part of a larger exercise that saw 923 officers elevated across various ranks following a rigorous, transparent process conducted by the Police Service Commission, comprising written examinations and interviews, upon the IGP’s recommendation.

In his address, IGP Egbetokun congratulated the officers and charged them to uphold the highest ethical standards, embrace community-oriented and intelligence-led policing, and adopt innovative strategies to counter emerging criminal threats.

“Let your leadership be defined by integrity, fairness, and an unyielding commitment to justice,” he urged, emphasizing their role as exemplars for junior officers.

The ceremony drew a distinguished audience, including:Senator Simon Lalong, former Plateau State Governor and current Senator for Plateau South;   

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State;   

Senator Abdul-Aziz Yari, former Zamfara State Governor;

Senator (Dr.) Tony Nwoye (Anambra North);

Senator Iya Abbas (Adamawa Central);

Senator Ede Dafinone (Delta Central);

Hon. Alhaji Ahmadu, Minister of State for Regional Development, FCT;

Ambassador Gabriel Aduda, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence;

Alhaji (Chief) Dr. Abdul-Raheem Oladimeji, OFR, Founder and Chairman, Board of Trustees, Al-Hikmah University;

Members of the Force Management Team, serving and retired senior officers, as well as families and well-wishers of the promotees.

 

The IGP reiterated that such promotions are not mere rewards but a call to greater responsibility in safeguarding national security and public trust.

The event concluded with cheers, applause, and a renewed pledge from the promoted officers to justify the confidence reposed in them through exemplary service.
