I’d push until Rarara gets genuine honorary degree – Daily Trust

Sadaukin Bauchi, Abdurahman Sade, has described Singer Dauda Kahutu Rarara as a legend, who deserves an honorary doctorate degree from any university in the world.

Sade stated this while weighing in on the controversy over a purported honorary doctorate degree by European-American University, which was later disclaimed.

The Sadaukin Bauchi, who said he drew the attention of the institution to the previous anomaly, vowed to push until Rarara gets a genuine award from the university.

“The world should forget about the one that is fake. I am personally pushing for him to get a genuine one. I am a fan of Rarara,” he said during an interview with Daily Trust on Monday.

“Rarara was dragged into the whole thing; he was so busy that he couldn’t actually check. Actually, the offer came through a friend, which we are very sure did not intend to cheat him. Maybe the people who approached his friend for the award actually weren’t so straightforward. The award was meant for his friend but the friend said Rarara deserves it more.

“He deserves it. Rarara deserves an award not only from that university, I think from any university in the world. He’s a legend actually. He has achieved a lot.”

Asked what lessons could be learnt from the episode, the title holder said, “The lesson I want him (Rarara) to learn is that he should be careful with online activities. Anybody approaching him over anything that has to do with an award, he should authenticate it. There are a lot of fake institutions across the globe.”

Asked to address reports that the university is fake, Sade said, “I am a product of that institution. How can it be fake. The problem is not the university. It’s those behind the act. I personally drew their attention to it. I sent the report to them. I called the attention of the institution to the award and they confirmed that it’s fake. That the people just used their name.

“However, this time around, efforts are being made to ensure that he gets a genuine honorary degree because like I said earlier, he deserves it… The university has already agreed to give him.

“I have just sent a letter of nomination and they agreed to extend that offer to him if he fulfils the requirements. I have sent his CV and citation. So, once he’s found worthy enough, he will get it… Prominent people in the society can learn from what happened. They should make thorough checks if anyone approaches them for award. They should check how genuine it is before they accept such awards. But that being said, Dauda Kahutu Rarara deserves an honorary doctorate award. There’s no doubt about that.”
