ICC Women’s U19 World Cup: Edo State Sports Commission honours 9 female cricketers

In acknowledgement and appreciation of Nigeria’s female National under 19 cricket team on their achievements at the recently concluded ICC under 19 women World Cup in Malaysia, the Executive Chairman Edo State Sports Commission, Honourable Amadin Desmond Enabulele has received and honoured the nine Edo athletes that made the team.

The Edo Sports Commission boss said that the nine girls, the entire Edo Cricket Association and the Federation president, Uyi Akpata have made the state proud and deserve government recognition and honour.

Receiving the girls and the Edo Cricket Association led by Coach Theophilus Adolphus Ibodeme, Hon Enabulele said he was impressed with the performance of team Nigeria at the World Cup in Malaysia and congratulated the nine Edo cricketers that represented Nigeria in Malaysia. He described them as distinguished athletes who have brought honour back home.

“I’m impressed with you girls and the entire Edo Cricket Association. This is the kind of development we are talking about. This is the kind of sports development and progress Governor Okpebholo wants to see.

“This is a part of our agenda, ‘catching them young’. That is what the Governor has asked us to do with sports in the state. We want to see our athletes being discovered and groomed from the grassroots to national and international level in all sports”.

“I am elated and honoured to have your presence. I’m surprised to see nine children as cricket athletes who represented Nigeria. I was waiting to see more matured and big girls. I am delighted to see you and welcome you back home. You have made us proud.

“I am aware of your exploit so far and want to assure you that Edo State government is solidly behind you. Let me specifically appreciate our Cricket Association chairman and president, Nigeria Cricket Federation, Hon Uyi Akpata for all he has been doing for the growth of Cricket in our state and Nigeria.”

Hon Enabulele who rewarded the team with N100 million cash prize assured the Edo Cricket Association of more support.

He directed the state cricket association to furnish him with details of all their needs and promised to make them available.

“We want to start with an upgrade of your training facilities and other things to encourage and motivate you to a high performance level.” He emphasized.

The Edo Cricketers that made the world cup include Lucky Piety Ebosetale (Captain), Agboya Peculiar (Vice Captain),Victory Igbinedion and Peace Usen, Adekunle. Others are Adeshola, Chukwuonye Christabel, Eguakun Omosigbo, Ogudai Ehimen Beauty and Akhigbe Anointed, including Coach Theophilus Adolphus Ibodeme.

Coach Adolphus Ibodeme and the captain Lucky Piety Ebosetale while speaking for the team expressed their appreciation to the Edo Sports Commission boss and the management for the reception and courtesy accorded them.

The Executive Chairman Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, was accompanied by Acting Permanent Secretary, Mrs. A.P. Efe-Amenze, Mrs. Sabina Chikere, the Executive Director Sports Development and Operations, Coach Baldwin Bazuaye (MON) and other board members.
