ICAN probes alleged exam malpractices – Daily Trust

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), on Tuesday, said it has commenced an investigation regarding a video currently circulating on social media alleging impersonation during one of its examinations.

The body disclosed this in a statement signed by Lanre Olasunkanmi, Registrar/Chief Executive of ICAN.

The board was reacting to a viral video showing suspected proxies caught impersonating candidates during the ICAN examination.

In the footage, a man was apprehended and was alleged to be sitting on behalf of a bank manager.

The same video also featured a female proxy who alleged she was writing the test for a commissioner in Taraba State.

In the recording, exam supervisors question the suspect, who identified herself in the footage as Leavitt Felix.

He said that ICAN maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy for all forms of examination malpractice, including impersonation.

“The Institute’s examination processes are guided by globally accepted standards of integrity, and any attempt to compromise them is treated with utmost seriousness,” he said.

He said ICAN has commenced a thorough investigation into the matter, adding that, “Appropriate disciplinary measures will be applied in accordance with established regulations and the findings will be communicated transparently to stakeholders.”

Meanwhile, Dr Sarah Enoch Adi, the Taraba State Commissioner of Finance has denied sponsoring the lady caught writing ICAN examination in a viral video clip on social media.

She said, in a telephone interview with Daily Trust, that the claim made by the lady who was caught writing the ICAN against her was false.

The lady had claimed that she was writing the examination on behalf of the finance commissioner.

According to the supervisors, records show that Sarah Enoch Adi was the person for whom she was writing the examination.

“Please, I don’t know anything about this issue. I saw the video clip in which a lady was caught writing the ICAN examination, and she claimed that I sent her to write the examination on my behalf. I have nothing to do with that.

“I don’t know the lady, that is why I ignored the video clip, and I don’t even respond to calls on the issue,” the commissioner said.

The commissioner stated that she was not a member of ICAN and, therefore, doesn’t have anything to do with the ICAN examination.

“I don’t know the lady caught, let alone sending her to write the ICAN examination, a body which I did not belong to,” she said, adding that she had not been invited by the police in connection with the viral video.
