A young Nigerian lady has sparked massive reactions online after boldly declaring that her younger sister will never step foot in any National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) camp.
Taking to her X (formerly Twitter) page, she explained that the country is too unsafe, the allowance too small, and she cannot watch her sister “suffer in the name of service.”
She added in her comment section that unless the government guarantees safety and better welfare for corps members, she will not allow her sister to join the program.
The declaration immediately drew mixed reactions online. One commentator said: “If you can take care of her, no wahala. Camp no be for everybody.” Another argued: “NYSC is still important o! Let the girl decide for herself.”
The video has since gone viral, reigniting the debate about whether NYSC remains relevant in today’s Nigeria.
While some support her protective stance, others insist that NYSC is important for every university graduate, especially for employment opportunities.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns over safety, welfare, and the evolving perception of NYSC among young Nigerians, sparking further discussion about potential reforms and the future of the program.
