I Was Betrayed By Many Politicians In 2015 – Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has revealed that he was betrayed by many politicians during his bid for re-election in 2015.

Jonathan made the remark on Thursday, in Benin City, Edo State capital, while attending the 70th birthday celebration of Chief Mike Aiyegbeni Oghiadomhe, his former Chief of Staff.

Speaking at the event, Jonathan described Oghiadomhe as one of the very few loyal friends he could always count on.

“Oghiadomhe is one of those who can stick out their necks for me,” he said, while recalling how difficult it is to find trustworthy allies in politics.

The former President lamented the level of disloyalty he faced during the 2015 general elections that ended his tenure.

“Politics in the Nigerian standard is about betrayals,” Jonathan said.

“I have witnessed a lot of betrayal during the 2015 election.

You will find it difficult to see somebody who says the same thing in the morning, in the afternoon and in the evening.”

Jonathan further stressed that betrayals remain one of the major challenges confronting Nigeria’s political system.

“It is sad that loyalty and consistency are scarce in our politics. People shift positions based on personal interests,” he added.

Oghiadomhe served as Jonathan’s Chief of Staff between 2010 and 2014, playing a key role during his administration.

The birthday event in Benin was attended by several political leaders, associates, and dignitaries.

Meanwhile, speculations have continued to grow over Jonathan’s possible interest in contesting the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). However, the former President has not confirmed or denied the reports.
