Veteran Nigerian Juju musician, Oluwashina Akanbi Peters, popularly known as Sir Shina Peters, has opened up about his early start in life, revealing that he became a father at the age of 14.
Speaking on a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, the Afrojuju legend said he began his musical journey at the age of 10 and achieved remarkable milestones at an unusually young age.
“I started my career at the age of 10. I had my first child at 14. I bought my first car at 13 and built my first house at 16,” he said.
Now 67, Sir Shina Peters ruled out the possibility of returning to the studio, saying the current music environment is no longer suitable for him.
“My fans keep asking for new music, but I can’t go to the studio anymore. The atmosphere is not conducive. I don’t even know what to sing,” he added.
The music icon, known for pioneering the Afrojuju genre, also revealed that a majority of his fans are from the South-East region of Nigeria.
“Sixty-five per cent of my fans are Igbos, not Yorubas,” he noted.
Sir Shina Peters remains one of Nigeria’s most influential musicians, celebrated for his energetic performances and fusion of Juju and Afrobeat sounds.
