Pep Guardiola admitted he felt “embarrassed and ashamed” by his touchline behaviour during Manchester City’s 2-1 loss to Newcastle, after clashing with a pitchside cameraman and exchanging heated words with midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.
The City boss cut a furious figure over several refereeing calls, including a strong penalty appeal for Phil Foden and concerns surrounding Newcastle’s second goal.
Manager frustrated by key decisions
Guardiola’s anger spilled over in the aftermath of the controversial moments, prompting an on-field confrontation that drew significant attention.
Despite the tension, he later downplayed the incidents and even praised Guimaraes for his performance.

Guardiola issues apology for ‘ashamed’ behaviour
“I feel embarrassed and ashamed when I see it. I don’t like it,” he said. “I apologise to the cameraman. I am who I am. Even with 1,000 games, I’m not a perfect person and I make mistakes. I defend my team and my club.”
Reflects on Champions League milestone
Guardiola also touched on his upcoming landmark of 100 Champions League games as a manager.
“I realise I’m getting old. Every game is a milestone.
“It means every season we’ve been there. It’s a huge competition, special for the players. To challenge the best teams in Europe is incredible. For the club, in terms of reputation, prestige and financial issues, it’s massively important.”
City face Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League on Tuesday night, before hosting Leeds United in the Premier League on Saturday.
