In a candid chat on the latest episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, award-winning singer and songwriter Waje opened up about one of the most defining moments of her life becoming a mother at 16.
The 45-year-old “Rara” crooner revealed that she got pregnant shortly after finishing secondary school, a situation that led to rejection from her child’s father and his family.
She disclosed that years later, when her daughter turned 18, all efforts to rebuild a relationship between father and child were unsuccessful.

Reflecting on her journey and lessons learned, Waje said her life experiences have shaped her standards, especially when it comes to marriage.
According to her, at her current stage in life, she cannot settle down with a man who isn’t successful. “I can’t marry someone who is not successful and here’s why,” she explained.
“I’m not in my 20s anymore, so we’re not growing together. A man leads, and he leads by showing me aspirations I can look up to. Success, faith, emotional balance they all matter because I’m also doing the work on myself.”
Waje also ruled out the idea of marrying a younger man, saying her practical and nurturing nature would make such a relationship difficult.
“I’m very pragmatic and sometimes have to take care of people around me my siblings, friends, even family members,” she said. “If my husband were younger, he’d probably get tired. I’d end up treating him like a child.”
