The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) Thursday called on Nigerians to disregard falsehoods and remain alert to the dangers of allowing malicious use of social media to substitute fact-based inquiry and due process.
The national coordinator of HURIWA, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, at a press briefing urged the Nigerian public to set the record straight and to separate fact from fiction.
He said N6igerians should prevent the misuse of social media and other platforms to damage the reputation of people who served the country with honour and dedication.
HURIWA was reacting to the rape allegations made against the former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Alhaji Kabiru Tanimu Turaki .
He urged members of the media, civil society, and the Nigerian public at large to treat the allegations with the utmost caution.
He stated that the allegations are not new as they have been investigated, tested, and found wanting.
He added that HURIWA reaffirms its confidence in the integrity of Turaki.
