How Sowore’s agenda threatens national stability – NYCN

The Kaduna state chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has described the agenda of activist Omoyele Sowore as a threat to national stability, warning Nigerian youths to resist attempts by what it termed “conflict entrepreneurs” to lure them into disruptive protests.

The Council was reacting to reports of a planned nationwide demonstration tagged #FreeNnamdiKanuNow, allegedly being coordinated by Sowore in connection with the recent security advisory issued by the United States Embassy.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Umar Abubakar, the NYCN said while peaceful protest remains a constitutional right, any activity capable of undermining public peace and national unity must be firmly rejected by patriotic citizens.

It noted that the rising trend of using activism as a tool for political agitation and incitement is dangerous and counterproductive, warning that such actions only deepen divisions and distract the nation from addressing pressing developmental challenges.

“We must resist those who thrive on chaos and disunity. Nigerian youths should not be used as pawns by conflict entrepreneurs whose only goal is to destabilize the nation,” the statement read in part.

The Kaduna NYCN described Sowore’s approach as reckless and unpatriotic, accusing him of exploiting the democratic space for personal and political relevance. “Leadership is about responsibility and nation-building, not about fueling disorder or seeking attention through disruption,” it added.

The youth body further cautioned against the growing culture of ridiculing and discrediting national leaders under the guise of activism, insisting that constructive engagement and dialogue remain the most effective instruments for reform.

Reaffirming its commitment to peace and national cohesion, the NYCN Kaduna Chapter commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Minister of Youth Development, and Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna state for championing youth inclusion and empowerment initiatives across the country.

It also lauded the Kaduna State Commissioner for Youth Development for maintaining active engagement with youth bodies across the state, describing such collaboration as critical to sustaining peace and progress.

The Council urged all Nigerian youths to remain law-abiding, innovative, and focused on contributing positively to national development, emphasising that true patriotism lies in building the nation, not tearing it apart.
