All is now set for Management of Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC to liase with stakeholders and focus on upgrading and expansion of existing rail infrastructure by introducing new technologies to improve efficiency and safety.
The new Managing Director, Nigerian Railway Corporation, Dr.Kayode Opeifa dropped this hint during his maiden address on assumption of office at the corporation’s headquarters in Lagos.
He stated that based on the new technology, management intends to improve/expand connectivity to major cities in the country.
Opeifa explained further that in order to achieve this aim the corporation requires support of Federal Ministry of Transportation, state/local governments as well as the organised private sector.
According to him, “we will priotise welfare of our staff and their relatives to ensure their ultimate efficiency and delivery through better living and working conditions
“We will work with relevant ministries to ensure smooth inter and multimodality of mobility systems in Nigeria as the rail sector is set to take centre stage in mobility of our national economic growth”.
The NRC boss promised to work with educational institutions and relevant government agencies to support employment and skill acquisition through reactivation and utilisation of of NRC resources nationwide especially training schools.
He also said the corporation will promote environmentally friendly practices and technologies to minimise rail sector carbon prints.
“We will rely heavily on data, technology and sustainable energy to bring about a purpose driven change management,” Opeifa posited.
Earlier, acting managing director of the corporation, Mr. Ben Iloanusi described the new helmsman as one with a wealth of experience.
Represented by Director corporate planning, Mr. James Jang, he pledged to work alongside in order to achieve greater success.
