…plans 200 housing units in Phase 2
Laide Raheem, Abeokuta
The Ogun State government says it has completed the construction of the first phase of the Gateway Aviation Village in Iperu-Remo, Ikenne Local Government Area of the state.
The 100 housing units which are built as part of the aerotropolis around the Gateway International Cargo Airport situated in the town, will soon be inaugurated officially.
The state Commissioner for Housing, Jagumolu Akande Omoniyi, who made this known while fielding questions from newsmen shortly after inspecting the housing project, however, disclosed that work would begin on the construction of the second phase of the Aviation Village of 200 housing units at Iperu-Remo before the end of first quarter of 2025.
The Commissioner explained that the Phase One of the housing estate is fully sold out with topnotch facilities such as drainages, internal road, electricity, perimeter fence and security.
He added that subscribers who have been allocated their homes can start moving into the estate in a few days time.
“For the first phase of the Gateway Aviation Village, there is 7,5000 water reservoir capacity here to serve this estate, the road network is 98% completed and from the feedback from the handler, by this time tomorrow, the whole road within the estate would have been tarred.
“This implies that before the end of the week, the residents of this estate can move in and begin to live in the estate because every facility that is needed for a comfortable living has been provided by the government of Gov Dapo Abiodun”, the Commissioner stated
Omoniyi explained further that the housing estate was deliberately built to provide support for those who will be working and have businesses around the almost completed Gateway International Airport along Iperu/Ilisan Road, adding that it was part of the deliberate plans of the government to open up Remo Development Clusters.
“One beautiful thing Gov Dapo Abiodun’s administration has done is to open up the Remo Development Clusters.
“In these clusters we have the much talked about Gateway Village, the world standard aerotropolis and with this movement of goods and services, raw materials and agricultural products will soon commence here.
“Apart from that, commercial operations will soon commence at the airport and when all of these are put together, it goes to show that this Remo is open for business and it serves as a hub for business activities and connectivity within the Ogun State.
“Agricultural products from the state or the Southwest could easily be transported and within six hours, they get to Europe and that shows that Ogun State is ready for business. This project has put the state on the world map.
“However, the airport cannot strive on its own without having a community around it and that is why the Gateway Aviation Village is well primed to support and complement the aerotropolis so that people that work and do business around that environment will have a place where they can live, work and play.
“So far, so good, what we have on ground is fully sold and I am happy to announce that on, or before the first quarter of this year we shall open up the phase 2 for another 200 units affordable housing scheme”, he said
The Commissioner disclosed that the first phase of the housing project generated over 5,000 direct jobs along the value chain of building construction with an injection of about N700m wages daily for all that were involved in the housing project over a period of six months.
Omoniyi, however, said that the facilities at each of the housing estates initiated by Gov Abiodun’s administration are topnotch because the emphasis is on creating comfortable and livable homes while adding values to efforts at bridging the housing deficit in the country.
Earlier, the Commissioner had led delegation of his ministry to pay a condolence visit to the palace of Alaperu of Iperu Remo, Oba Adeleke Idowu-Basibo who died on Tuesday at 67 after a brief illness at the Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ilisan-Remo.
Omoniyi described the late royal father as a leader par excellence and father to all in the state, praying the Almighty God to grant the family, sons and daughters of Iperu-Remo and the state at large the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
