House of Reps Passes Resolution to Protect Dangote Refinery from Strikes

The House of Representatives passed a resolution on Tuesday to safeguard strategic private investments, like the Dangote Refinery, from disruptive industrial actions following a PENGASSAN strike that halted crude oil supplies.

The strike, launched September 27, 2025, protested alleged dismissals of over 800 Nigerian workers at the refinery, causing power cuts and fuel shortages.

It was suspended October 1 after government talks and a court injunction. The House, led by Alhassan Ado Doguwa, cited violations of the NEPZA Act’s no-strike rule in free trade zones.

The resolution directs Speaker Abbas Tajudeen to mediate between PENGASSAN, Dangote Refinery, and ministries, with a multi-stakeholder committee to resolve issues like union rights within 14 days.

It urges stricter enforcement of NEPZA laws to protect critical assets.PENGASSAN’s Festus Osifo welcomed mediation but warned of resuming action if agreements fail.

The resolution aims to balance energy security with labor rights amid Nigeria’s push for self-sufficiency.
