Højlund left out of Manchester United squad vs Arsenal after defiance to leave

Rasmus Højlund has been left out of Manchester United’s matchday squad for their Premier League opener against Arsenal, after being told he can leave.

According to The Athletic, manager Ruben Amorim opted to omit the Danish striker following the arrival of Benjamin Šeško, who is expected to lead the line at Old Trafford.

United have reportedly told Højlund he faces an uphill battle for regular minutes this season, with the club open to offers.

But the 22-year-old has publicly maintained he wants to fight for his place this season, despite links with a AC Milan.

United begin the new campaign under Amorim with significant attacking reinforcements, including Šeško, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.

However, questions remain over their midfield and defensive stability. Arsenal, meanwhile, have strengthened with Martin Zubimendi, Viktor Gyökeres, Noni Madueke, Christian Nørgaard and Cristhian Mosquera as they mount another title challenge.
