A tragic accident on Sunday along the Kaduna–Abuja highway claimed four lives.
The crash was confirmed by Iliyasu Tijjani, the Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kaduna Sector Command.
He said the incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. at Kakau, near Gonin Gora, on the outskirts of Kaduna.

According to Tijjani, the collision involved a gas-filled tanker and a Toyota Hilux, both heading towards Kaduna.

Preliminary findings indicated that the Hilux, which was reportedly on high speed, collided with the tanker from behind while attempting a risky overtaking.
“The crash was caused by excessive speeding and dangerous overtaking,” Tijjani stated.
He revealed that there were five people in the Hilux — four men and one woman. Sadly, all four men were confirmed dead at St. Gerard Catholic Hospital, while the lone female survivor is receiving treatment at the FRSC Clinic at Tollgate, Kaduna.
Tijjani added that the collision caused severe damage to the Hilux and temporarily disrupted vehicular movement on the busy route until emergency teams arrived to restore order.
He cautioned motorists against speeding and reckless driving, stressing that impatience and traffic violations remain major causes of crashes on the Kaduna–Abuja expressway.
“Drivers must obey speed limits, maintain safe distances, and avoid dangerous manoeuvres,” he said. “The Corps will continue to enforce safety laws to protect lives on our roads.”
The Sector Commander expressed sympathy to the bereaved families and assured that the FRSC, in collaboration with other emergency responders, would sustain efforts to ensure safer highways across Kaduna State.
