“Hilda Baci’s Biggest Pot Of Jollof Highlights Poverty In Nigeria” – Gehgeh

Nigerian social commentator Gehgeh has sparked debate after commenting on chef Hilda Baci’s recent record-breaking cooking event.

Hilda, who first gained global attention in 2023 following her Guinness World Record cook-a-thon, recently prepared the largest pot of Jollof rice in Lagos, feeding thousands of attendees.

The event attracted huge crowds and was celebrated as a testament to Nigerian culture and culinary excellence.

Despite the celebration, Gehgeh took issue with the event, arguing that it reflected the country’s struggles rather than progress.

“This, Hilda Baci, the biggest pot of Jollof, just exposed Nigeria as a poor and hungry country. Look at how people are behaving—they fight, they cry, just to eat ordinary Jollof rice.

“This is a sign. Nigeria is a poor and hungry country, and that’s the truth. My advice to Hilda Baci—if you see this video—they say ‘had I know is the last comment of a fool.’ If I had known before, I would have given this advice earlier.

“You are giving so much attention, energy, and money to things that are not truly important for society today. What is this Guinness record? How is it contributing to Nigeria? Your record and Big Brother Nigeria are the same—they divert the youth’s attention to things that are not really important for the country today.

“And as for that rice you cooked, it’s more about quantity than quality.” he partly said in a video posted on X on Saturday.

His remarks have divided social media users. While some echo his concerns about poverty and rising food costs, others maintain that the event was meant to foster unity, promote tourism, and highlight Nigerian culture rather than serve as a commentary on societal issues.
